Good God, how time flies – in a blink of an eye, 2011 was over, we were celebrating the new year and now before I was even prepared for it, I’m staring straight at the impending February. Time really does fly by when you’re über busy.

You’ve got to love those big dinners where you get all your loved ones around a table. Birthdays, holidays and other special events are usually the catalyst for getting all the people you know and love all together in one place. A trip to Berowra Waters Inn is a journey, you might even call it a pilgrimage almost. It takes commitment and planning. Located along the Hawkesbury River, it’s a one hour drive north of Sydney leaving the confines of suburbia. Even when you get there, the journey is not quite over. The only way to get to the front door of this place is by boat, or if you have the cash to burn, by seaplane. And if its location doesn’t say ‘exclusive’ enough, to top it off, it’s only open for lunch on Friday-Saturday, and dinner for Friday and Saturday.

It seemed to happen overnight, but suddenly there they were – cafes that are not quite cafes. No, instead of simply being focused around a coffee machine with a limitation to serving classic wraps, BLTs and if you’re lucky, a hot meal, these cafes now serve a different kind of fare. The food that you can order these places is somehow just that little bit gourmet.
