Two Good Eggs

It seemed to happen overnight, but suddenly there they were – cafes that are not quite cafes. No, instead of simply being focused around a coffee machine with a limitation to serving classic wraps, BLTs and if you’re lucky, a hot meal, these cafes now serve a different kind of fare. The food that you can order these places is somehow just that little bit gourmet.

One such place is Two Good Eggs in Surry Hills which I have admittedly been frequenting a bit recently. It’s a short stroll from my office, so in the mornings it’s been a place we’ve been going for a good cup of coffee served with a delightful complimentary cube of chocolate wafer when you’re trying to put off starting the work day; or for a casual lunch, a perfect place to escape for the hustle and bustle of working in the city.

The interior of the cafe is small with seating indoors catering for about 30 or so seats with the open kitchen squeezed into one corner of the floor space. From the outside, you would think it would be cramped and dingy inside, but the high ceilings painted white and large glass windows in the converted warehouse interior counteract this. Upon entering, a large chalkboard heralds the week’s specials. Though I’m initially mildly disappointed to find that the pulled pork sandwich special that I’ve been eager to try is not on the board, however the specials on offer on this day were too hard to turn away from. I’m later told to keep an eye on their Facebook page to avoid future disappointment :).

Rare Roast Beef Sandwich with Mustard, Caramelised Onions and Dill Cucumbers

A generous serving of tender pink roast beef, teamed a generous smear of mild American style mustard for that little bit of kick, the sweet caramelised onions and sour pickled dill cucumbers on top of crunchy slices of toast – this was perfectly moreish and scrumptious.

Chicken Snitzel Burger with Chunky Chips & Dill Cucumber

I only managed to steal a chip or two from my dining companion – but check out that chicken snitzel!

  1. Haven’t been back for a while but absolutely love Two Good Eggs – for their coffee as well as the produce they use.

    • Totally love their produce…especially their field mushrooms :)
